Grasshopper SparrowScientific name: Ammodramus savannarum Inconspicuous in plumage and in song, the Grasshopper Sparrow often needs to be looked for if it is to be noticed at all. Like other sparrows in its genus, the Grasshopper Sparrow has a flat head, and a short, somewhat spiky tail. Unlike many other sparrows, the Grasshopper Sparrow does not usually occur in flocks at any time of the year. When flushed, it usually flies only a short distance before dropping back into the grass and disappearing from sight. (Follow the links on the left for additional information.) |
